Yellowhead :: Semolina Porridge £6.99

The latest release from 56Stuff’s commander Yellowhead and it must be one of the cutest CD-R releases ever. Printed in an extremely limited amount of 56 copies only, the CD looks like a small vinyl record with the sleeve boasting gorgeous artwork. Semolina Porridge used to be a popular breakfast dish in Soviet kindergartens, and it is quite possible that Yellowhead misses those days of innocent problem-free life. It is most likely that Moonscape, Zimmer-G and Few feel the same way, so they have teamed up to cook this “semolina special” in Yellowhead’s mysterious... more...

VA :: Different Listening 2 £5.99 £3.99

After the first compilation released in 2003, the 56Stuff team has decided to continue with the Different Listening series and here’s the result. As with the first album, the second part is an exciting collection of lounge and downtempo tracks composed by artists from different corners of the ex-Soviet republics. Call it experience or coincidence, but the progression is definitely there... more...

Dima Vihornov :: Horosho £4.99 £2.99

Horosho is the debut album of Moscow’s Dima Vihornov, who used to be part of Pork Roll and other jazz and art-rock bands. His experience in live bands is certainly noticeable, as his music is quite alive and vibrant. Dima has been playing a piano since the age of five, which is another serious influence on this album filled with the certain charm and lightness of playful piano melodies. Although every composition on the record touches upon different musical areas and sounds, they all have one thing in common – a layer of humour. The album is like a collection of strange... more...

VA :: Different Listening £4.99 £2.99

This is quite an international compilation with contributions from artists of Russia, Belarus, Germany and even Brazil. The description on the cover says “acid jazz, downtempo, lounge” and 56Stuff deliver just that – nice and chilled downtempo tracks, without focusing on experimentation. If you like labels like Mole Listening Pearls or Ninja Tune, then you should definitely give this CD a try.
After a short and bizarre intro, the compilation kicks off with Strike’s spy-like guitar. It is followed by a nice track from YaD, who sounds... more...
