Fresh from Kohvi! Ramo Teder aka Pastacas
is back with a new album of singing, acoustic guitar and electronica.
As with his previous albums, Ramo plays live instruments in most tracks,
but here he is also concentrated on singing. Don’t be suspicious
of the singing part, as it is rather enjoyable and unusual. Pastacas
sings in Estonian, Finnish and his own made-up language (!). Tsaca
Tsap is quite folky, yet rather electronic and IDM-ish. The opening
Veel Viivuks is a gentle ballad, vocal parts are being constantly
added, accompanied by guitar and simple synth melodies. Ramo twists
his vocals back and forth, deconstructing guitar melodies and surrounding
the compositions with layers of electronic percussion. Vurr
is a cute drill’n’bass tune, taking us back to things
like Brace Yourself by Mu-ZIQ. Tracks like Viitkoori
Kupong come as total surprise - starting with a traditional piano
passage and immediately jumping into funny acid-pop song. The closing
Tallinn Negatiivis is a great ambient piece, going deeper
and quietly concluding the album without words.
If you’re into folktronica, you must check out this album. Some
of the tracks will remind you of Global Goon and Aphex
Twin, although this album may sound a little bizarre to the lovers
of traditional IDM. Electronic sounds serve here more as accompaniment
rather than the core of the tracks, but that doesn’t destroy
the album at all. Tsaca Tsap has a soul, which is definitely
human.
